Swiss Ski Accident: Five Bodies Found on the Alps

A ski illustration provided by the Swiss National Tourist Office shows that five bodies of skiers were discovered on a peak in the Alps near Zermatt on Sunday (25th), all of whom were already presumed dead upon discovery. The identities of the victims and the cause of death are currently under investigation.

The Rimpfischhorn peak, located near the Italian border in the eastern outskirts of Zermatt, saw climbers find four abandoned ski boards near the summit on Tuesday afternoon, which prompted them to alert authorities. The police deployed rescue helicopters for a search and quickly found the bodies of three skiers in a snow avalanche area, followed by the discovery of two more bodies and another ski board.

Swiss police stated, "The bodies of the five victims were found quickly." The Rimpfischhorn peaks at nearly 4,200 meters, a popular spot for off-piste skiers. Climbers spotted the abandoned ski boards at an altitude of around 4,000 meters.
