Mbappé Wins First European Golden Shoe, Scoring 31 Goals in His Debut Season with Real Madrid

Despite not winning any titles with Real Madrid, French forward Kylian Mbappé has claimed his first European Golden Shoe. On Saturday, he scored twice in a 2-0 victory against Real Sociedad, marking his first win of the prestigious award.

In his debut La Liga season, Mbappé scored 31 goals and earned the honor of being the league's top scorer. With his performance in the season finale, he accumulated 62 points, surpassing Portugal's Victor Gyokeres (39 goals) and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah (29 goals). Although Gyokeres netted eight more goals in the league, he finished as runner-up with 58.5 points due to the weighted scoring system (2 points per goal in the top five leagues, 1.5 points per goal in lower leagues). Salah had a chance to share the glory with Mbappé if he scored a hat trick in the last match against Crystal Palace, but he only managed to score once, finishing third with 58 points.

Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane ranked fourth and fifth with 54 and 52 points, respectively. Mbappé becomes the third player in Real Madrid's history to achieve this honor, following Hugo Sánchez (1989-90 season) and Cristiano Ronaldo, who has won it three times.
