US Tariffs May Impact Aquaculture Exports, Taiwan Cement Green Energy Launches Support Program

In response to the potential impact of US tariffs on aquaculture exports, Taiwan Cement (1101-TW) subsidiary Taiwan Cement Green Energy has launched a "Production and Marketing History Support Program" at the Chiayi Fishing Light Phase I site. This initiative aims to assist fish farming households in applying for production and marketing history to mitigate potential market fluctuations.
In early April, the Ministry of Agriculture proposed support measures for the export supply chain for the most affected fish species, such as tilapia and bass. According to the Ministry of Agriculture's statistics, Taiwan's annual tilapia production reaches 58,256 metric tons, with about 40% exported, and 60% of that going to the US. Taiwan Cement Green Energy noted that by 2024, the local tilapia production at the Chiayi Fishing Light Phase I is projected to account for as much as 80%. Should exports be hindered, nearly 14,000 metric tons of tilapia previously destined for the US may return to the domestic market, significantly increasing supply and leading to a drop in market prices, directly impacting fishermen's livelihoods.
In light of these potential market fluctuations, Taiwan Cement Green Energy is collaborating with Professor Chen Zhejun, an expert in fishery energy integration, and the "Alishan Creation" team, which has a strong focus on local fishery development, to provide hands-on assistance to all aquaculture farmers in navigating the administrative details of "aquaculture certification and regulatory processes."
Moreover, Taiwan Cement Green Energy is cooperating with Alishan Creation to use the fishing light Phase I in Budai Yizhu as a pilot site for the production and marketing history support program, along with a series of professional courses focused on optimizing farming efficiency, covering areas such as water quality management, feed nutrition, intelligent aquaculture, and pest control. Taiwan Cement Green Energy emphasized that through comprehensive traceability and third-party verification mechanisms, the production and marketing history will help differentiate fishery products, stabilize prices, and enable high-quality fishery products to stand out in the domestic market while minimizing the impact of international shocks. The company will continue to monitor market trends and the needs of aquaculture producers, actively cooperating with the Ministry of Agriculture to enhance industry competitiveness and related policies.
