Survey Reveals German Brands of Electric Vehicles Earn Consumer Trust

A recent survey indicates that German brands of electric vehicles rank highest in quality trust, surpassing competitors from other countries. Manuel Schuler, head of global automotive business at BearingPoint, expressed surprise at the significant advantage of German car manufacturers. Findings show that German brands lead by 3 to 7 percentage points depending on the countries surveyed, attributed to their strong brand image built over many years.
While certain brands like BYD in China and Honda in the United States rank first in their respective markets, German brands such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, and Porsche consistently follow closely behind, easily surpassing most competitors in the majority of markets—especially holding the top ranks in France and Germany.
Schuler noted that despite the impressive technological performance of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers, they face challenges in consumer trust in international markets. For instance, BYD ranks low in France and is similarly positioned at the bottom in Germany, reflecting concerns over long-term after-sales service and data privacy. Schuler explained, "Customers are uncertain whether these manufacturers will still exist in a few years and if they can still access after-sales support for repairs and maintenance."
