Italian Nun Zhao Mum Passes Away at 93, Dedicated Over Sixty Years to Rural Taiwan

Italian nun Zhao Xiurong, affectionately known as Zhao Mum, passed away peacefully at 3 p.m. today (30th) at the age of 93. She dedicated over sixty years of her life to the rural communities in Hsinchu County's Jian Shi Township. Mayor Zheng Chaofang shared heartfelt memories on Facebook, recounting their annual agreement to bring warmth to children on Children's Day.
At the age of 29, she answered the call of God, crossing oceans from Italy to Taiwan and residing in the mountainous regions for 64 years. With a background as a nurse, she provided medical care, education, and assistance, deeply integrating into local communities and learning the languages of the indigenous people.
This year, she achieved her dream of obtaining a Taiwanese ID, realizing her wish of becoming a true Taiwanese. A memorial service will be held on May 31 in Hsinchu City for those wishing to pay their respects to this dedicated nun.
