Elon Musk Resigns from U.S. Government Efficiency Department to Focus on Tesla Business

Elon Musk has announced his resignation from the U.S. Government Efficiency Department (DOGE) to focus more on Tesla's business. As a special government employee, he was limited to a term of only 130 days of service per year, which officially ends on May 30 of this year. The U.S. Government Efficiency Department will continue operations until July 4, 2026.

Musk’s public persona is closely tied to Tesla’s operations, and his actions significantly affect the company's product sales and stock prices. Recently, he faced controversy for supporting Trump’s campaign and driving the department's operations, leading to budget cuts in perceived wasteful governmental units. These actions have sparked criticism and resulted in vandalism of Tesla vehicles, thereby impacting the company's stock price and sales. Data shows that from April 2024 until now, Tesla's new car deliveries have decreased by about 13%, and sales in the European market have halved, while the overall electric vehicle sales in Europe grew by 28% during the same period.

Musk tweeted, "As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending. The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government."
