World Senior Games Concludes! Exciting Performances in New Taipei, Looking Forward to 2027 in Japan's Kansai

The 2025 World Senior Games concluded on the 30th with a ceremony held at the New Taipei Art Museum, gathering over 25,000 athletes and officials from 107 countries. The long rainy days finally gave way to sunshine, and the closing ceremony featured an array of music, dance, light shows, and fireworks, creating an electrifying atmosphere as attendees bid farewell and made plans to reunite in Kansai, Japan for the next games.

The ceremony started with the theme “Let's Get Strong!” that reflected on the memorable moments of the event. The band 草屯囝仔 gave a vibrant performance that seamlessly blended Taiwanese folk elements with contemporary music, lifting the spirits of the crowd. As night fell, representatives of various sports entered the venue to symbolize shared glory and coexistence of cultures.

Sergii Bubka, President of the International Masters Games Association (IMGA), thanked the senior athletes for showcasing the spirit of limitless sports. New Taipei Mayor Hou You-ih shared his experiences over the last two weeks not just as a mayor but also as a participant and fan, inspired by the tenacity of senior athletes, he acknowledged the limitless possibilities that sports can bring to life. Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an highlighted that the Senior Games are not about professionalism like the Olympics, but a carnival for everyone, sharing countless ordinary yet remarkable moments.

The IMGA flag was officially handed over to the next host city, Kansai in Japan. Chairman Matsumoto Masayoshi expressed enthusiasm for continuing the passion of this year’s event, warmly inviting friends from around the world to join the festivities in 2027. The closing ceremony paid tribute to all participants through friendship, music, and vibrant fireworks, and looked forward to reconvening on the sports field.
