Russia and Ukraine Set to Begin Talks in Turkey Amid Intense Air Strikes

A Russian-Ukrainian delegation is scheduled to hold its first face-to-face talks since the onset of the conflict on May 16 in Istanbul, Turkey, hosted by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. According to the Turkish Foreign Ministry, the negotiations will take place on Monday (2nd) at 1 PM local time. Despite record-breaking airstrikes from both sides leading up to the talks, the negotiations are set to proceed.
U.S. President Trump has warned both Russia and Ukraine that if a ceasefire and peace negotiations are not swiftly established, the U.S. will step back from involvement. Recently, there has been significant military activity, with record aerial assaults and drone confrontations, including 472 drones and 7 missiles launched by Russian forces. Ukraine successfully executed its first drone attack deep into Siberia, hitting a military base over 4300 kilometers away, reportedly destroying 40 aircraft.
Additionally, a train heading to Moscow in Russia's Bryansk region was destroyed by an explosion on a bridge, resulting in at least 7 deaths and 69 injuries. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Russian officials believe it was an assault by Ukraine aimed at disrupting transportation.
