Woman in Japan Attacked by Elderly Man for Using Phone in Priority Seat

A violent incident recently occurred in Hokkaido, Japan, involving a woman in her 50s who was using her phone while seated in a priority seat. She was attacked by a 75-year-old drunk man sitting next to her, resulting in pain to her ribs. The incident took place on May 27 at around 9:20 PM on the Sapporo subway's Tozai Line.
The woman immediately asked the elderly man to get off the train with her and sought help from station staff to call the police. Upon arrival, the police arrested the man, who was found to be under the influence of alcohol.
The elderly man admitted he could not accept someone using a phone in the priority seat, which led him to act violently. The police also confirmed that the suspect and victim were strangers.
The Sapporo City Transportation Bureau urged the public to avoid using phones in the vicinity of priority seats designated for elderly and disabled persons.
