Li Junyi Resigns as Secretary-General of the Control Yuan, Opposition Questions the Necessity of the Institution

Li Junyi, the Secretary-General of the Control Yuan, announced today that he has resigned after failing to meet the high standards of integrity required for his position due to improper use of a government vehicle. His resignation was approved by Vice President Li Hongjun and will take effect immediately. He expressed his deepest apologies to the public for the social disturbance caused by this incident.
In response, Kuomintang party whip Fu Kuanqi stated that Li Junyi's situation demonstrates that the Control Yuan is out of touch with the public and questions its necessity. Meanwhile, the People’s Party whip Huang Guochang remarked that this resignation is an act of self-preservation by the Control Yuan and criticized the low standards of integrity.
Li Junyi emphasized that since taking office, he has maintained a cautious and self-disciplined attitude but deeply regrets this incident. He noted the need to hold himself to higher standards while in such a position.
The Legislative Yuan's Judicial and Legal Affairs Committee will also arrange a special report, but the Control Yuan has traditionally not participated in such reports. The opposition is calling for investigations by relevant authorities to ensure legal accountability.
