Cai Wangting's Attendance at Chinese Cultural Summit Raises Concerns of United Front; Mainland Affairs Council Criticizes

Cai Wangting, the general manager of Want Want Group, recently attended the Cross-Strait Chinese Cultural Summit in China, where he made a controversial statement declaring, "We are all Chinese, and the two sides are one family." This prompted a strong backlash from the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), which accused Want Want of sacrificing national interests and becoming a pawn in China's United Front strategy against Taiwan.
During the summit, Cai stated, "Want Want originated in Taiwan and developed in the motherland, and we must never forget our roots." The MAC criticized that Want Want's participation under the guise of cultural exchange was actually aiding China's endeavors for United Front work, severely undermining Taiwan's sovereignty.
Moreover, former Kuomintang chairperson Hung Hsiu-chu expressed concern over the DPP government's push for Taiwan independence, which she argued seeks to undermine Chinese culture. Legislator Lai Jui-lung from the DPP demanded strict condemnation and action against Want Want's behavior.
