National Bank Increases Credit to New Southbound Countries by 31.2 Billion TWD, India Sees Highest Growth

According to statistics, this year, the total credit balance goal for the National Bank towards New Southbound countries is 72.8 billion TWD, and as of the end of April, 31.2 billion TWD has been added, which has achieved 42.86% of the target. India contributed the most to this increase, followed by Singapore. As of the end of April 2025, the credit balance to New Southbound countries reached 1.8516 trillion TWD, a rise of 115.8 billion TWD from last year’s 1.7358 trillion TWD.
However, compared to the 1.8962 trillion TWD credit balance at the end of March, the balance decreased by 44.6 billion TWD by the end of April. Deputy Director Hou Li-yang noted that this is primarily due to the significant appreciation of the New Taiwan Dollar and large repayments from certain credit clients.
As of the end of April, the two countries with the largest increase in credit among the New Southbound countries were India, with an increase of 31.8 billion TWD, and Singapore, with 17.5 billion TWD. This increase is attributed to the heightened economic activity and increased credit demand from enterprises in these regions.
