Taiwan Team Wins 18 Edison Awards, Ranking Second Globally After the U.S.

As Taiwan's water leak inspectors use advanced AI technology to locate leak sources, the Taiwan team has won 18 Edison Awards, placing them second in the world, just behind the U.S.
These inspectors face challenges due to decreasing manpower, relying on technology to increase leak detection accuracy from the traditional 60-70% up to as high as 98%. According to Tsai Yao-lung, manager of the Industrial Technology Research Institute's Smart Operations and Maintenance Department, their ability to digitize and incorporate AI technologies allows for more precise detection of abnormal underground sounds, significantly enhancing efficiency.
In addition, Taiwan has made significant progress in the development of biomedical new materials, providing effective treatments lasting up to 30 days using hyaluronic acid technology. In terms of environmental protection, a technology company has developed energy-saving welding techniques using semiconductor technology, reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.
Industrial Technology Research Institute Director Liu Wen-hsiung emphasized that the development of these technologies is not merely for research, but aimed at solving actual market needs. Several technologies have already partnered with related industries and are expected to see large-scale commercial use in the near future.
