South Korea's Election: Lee Jae-myung Confirmed as Winner, Party Transition

South Korea held its 21st presidential election today (3rd), with a voter turnout of 79.4%, the highest in 28 years. Major broadcasters KBS, MBC, and SBS reported that Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party has been confirmed as the winner. However, Lee remarked when leaving his home that it is too early to declare victory, but if the result is verified, he will honor the great decision of the people.
Former President Moon Jae-in congratulated Lee on Facebook, expressing trust that he will fulfill the mission of the era. This election marks the end of Yoon Suk-yeol's presidency, who was initially supposed to serve until 2027. Yoon's declaration of martial law led to social unrest, resulting in his impeachment by the National Assembly and a ruling from the Constitutional Court on April 4, confirming the impeachment and leading to his official resignation. The South Korean government also conducted the presidential election voting today.
