Taiwanese Female Students Trapped in Cambodia After Scam, Grandfather's Plea for Help Ignored

In Taichung's Shalu District, two female students, 18-year-old Ms. Li and her classmate Ms. Lin, were lured to Cambodia under the pretext of working abroad. After realizing they were victims of a scam, Ms. Li contacted her grandfather, who was asked to pay 68,000 TWD for her release. Despite sending 136,000 TWD, the scam group refused to acknowledge the payment and continued to demand more money, prompting the family to fear for the girls' safety and report the incident to the police.
Authorities found out that Ms. Li left for Cambodia in March and has yet to return. They have alerted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will continue to investigate the case. Ms. Li's grandfather hopes the government can assist in rescuing the young women and warns others to exercise caution when seeking employment.
