Colombian Bodybuilder Mendez Found Dead in Spain; Husband Suspected of Suicide

Forty-three-year-old Colombian bodybuilder Zunilda Hoyos Mendez was found dead alongside her husband in Malaga, southern Spain. Police indicated she may have been brutally attacked multiple times with a hammer.
The husband, Jarrod Gelling, 46, was discovered in the bathroom with multiple self-inflicted wounds. Mendez and Gelling had been living in Dubai for a year before returning to Spain to prepare for an upcoming bodybuilding competition in Portugal.
Family members reported that Mendez had expressed concerns about her husband's violent behavior and planned to return to Colombia after the trip to file for divorce. Authorities received a report on Thursday afternoon, and upon arrival, found both bodies at the residence. The police stated that the woman's death was evidently due to violence, while the man is suspected of having committed suicide, with the exact cause of death pending forensic examination.
Mendez's niece remarked, "This trip was her farewell; she was determined to end this relationship." The police continue to investigate the case and are urging the public to pay attention to domestic violence issues to prevent further tragedies.
