江明信, the Executive Director of Hello Taiwan, recently returned from a visit to Taiwan with U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth and swiftly began meetings with pro-Taiwan lawmakers regarding the Trump administration's announcement to halt international student visa issuance. He emphasized the need to ensure that Taiwanese students are not affected by the visa ban due to their increasing demand.
江明信 noted that since President Trump took office, the application for F-1 visas has gradually tightened, with a recent announcement of a global suspension of international student visa interviews, causing anxiety among many Taiwanese students. To address this, he quickly arranged meetings with lawmakers like Tim Kennedy and Katherine Clark, who expressed their intention to propose restoring visa pathways to protect students' right to study.
江明信 pointed out that this breakfast meeting not only reviewed their past collaborations but also introduced a proposal for amendments concerning the international student visa ban, aiming to alleviate the inconveniences caused by the policy and ensure that Taiwanese students can continue to study in the U.S. without being hindered by political factors.
Emphasizing the importance of academic exchanges between the two countries, 江明信 encouraged Taiwanese students to maintain confidence in pursuing their academic goals and stated that he would continue to communicate with U.S. lawmakers to ask them to support Taiwanese students' rights.
