Diverse County Mayors Meet with Premier Su Zhenchang: Emphasis on Support for Additional Budget Proposal

According to Executive Yuan spokesperson Lee Hui-chih, Premier Su Zhenchang met today (11th) with Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai, Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che, Chiayi County Magistrate Weng Chang-liang, Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi, and Penghu County Magistrate Chen Kuang-fu to discuss fiscal issues between the central and local governments. The local leaders expressed hope that an additional budget proposal could address the issues arising from the Legislative Yuan's significant budget cuts.
Lee relayed that Premier Su expressed gratitude to Chen Chi-mai for gathering local leaders to reflect the needs and expectations of local governments and stated that the additional budget proposal would require support from both the local governments and legislative members to proceed through the Legislative Yuan review.
Lee noted that during the meeting, concerns were raised regarding the unfair distribution of funds under the new fiscal planning law, which could exacerbate urban-rural disparities. Achieving fairness across Taiwan is both President Lai Ching-te's political stance and a long-standing goal for Premier Su. The six major regional industrial living circles being promoted are aimed at actualizing this vision of a balanced Taiwan. The Executive Yuan will thoroughly consider the suggestions made by local leaders and work with local governments to address the issues facing the overall budget and fiscal planning law.
