Former Democratic Progressive Party legislator Chen Wan-jen has passed away in Chiang Mai, Thailand, at the age of 75. She celebrated her birthday on June 10 and succumbed to illness after a long battle with stage four breast cancer. Despite undergoing special treatments, her condition worsened due to complications from influenza and pneumonia, leading to her death on June 11. Chen was known for her bold political actions, including a 1995 incident where she was sentenced to 50 days in prison for damaging a statue of Chiang Kai-shek, making her the first to breach the Kuomintang's blacklist. Throughout her life, she demonstrated resilience and an active approach to her political endeavors, receiving support from friends like Tsai Chih-fang during her illness.
