Taipei Mayor Jiang Wan-an collaborated with Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate to kick off the 2025 World Masters Rugby Tournament. The event will commence on May 19 at the Ba Ling Rugby Field, featuring 11 domestic and international teams.
Mayor Tate expressed his gratitude towards Mayor Jiang and the World Masters team, congratulating them on organizing such a remarkable event. He stated, "We are here to have fun and enjoy ourselves." He also presented a jersey to Jiang and both exchanged signed balls while taking a commemorative photo to symbolize their friendship.
The rugby competition is divided into three age categories: 30s, 40s, and 50s and above, currently in the round-robin stage and set to hold the finals on the 27th, determining the champions of each group.
In New Taipei's Banqiao Sports Center, the three-on-three basketball competition for seniors was equally competitive, with Taiwan's Shen Chiao team facing Estonia. Despite the loud support for Taiwan, they eventually lost 10 to 13. Mayor Hou You-ih of New Taipei was present to encourage the players, expressing his admiration for their skills.
