Government Approves Two Additional Three-Day Weekends for Next Semester, Total of Nine Holidays Next Year

The Executive Yuan has officially approved the addition of two three-day weekends in the second half of the year. According to the announcement, there will be three consecutive holidays for this year's Teachers' Day and Taiwan's Restoration Day, and December 25, which marks Constitutional Day, will fall on a Thursday with no movement of the holiday. Next year, there will be a total of 120 holidays, including nine holidays that are three days or more, among which the Lunar New Year break consists of nine days, allowing citizens to plan their vacations accordingly.

The Directorate-General of Personnel stated that citizens are accustomed to a two-day weekend routine and that the existing regulations for adjusting workdays have been removed. New principles have been stipulated, allowing the holiday before or after a regular holiday to serve as a compensatory holiday. For instance, Teachers' Day on September 28 falls on a Sunday, thus the compensatory day will be on September 29 (Monday), and October 25, which marks Taiwan's Restoration Day and the victory at Kuningtou, falls on a Saturday, so the compensatory holiday will be on October 24 (Friday), effectively adding two three-day weekends.

The Directorate-General emphasized that the holiday calendar for government agencies applies only to public servants, while public enterprises will generally follow suit. For special government agencies (such as police, fire department, and military), or for schools at various levels, holiday arrangements will be adjusted by the relevant ministry as needed. Also, private enterprises are to adhere to relevant provisions of the Labor Standards Act in arranging their holidays.

Furthermore, the Directorate-General of Personnel has posted the revised government holiday calendars for 2025 and 2026 on its official website, where the public can check or download the information for reference.
