Blue-White Coalition Prolongs Legislative Session to August 31; Zhang Yishan Calls on Recall Groups for Action

The Blue-White coalition in the Legislative Yuan had previously extended the current session to the end of July and today (13th), the People’s Party caucus has proposed to extend it once again to August 31st. In response, the Democratic Progressive Party has questioned the motives behind this, alleging it is primarily to broaden legal protections for implicated blue legislators and to assist the blue camp in averting a massive recall.

Political commentator Zhang Yishan urged recall groups during an episode of 'Taiwan Forward' to pay close attention to the legislators they wish to recall, monitoring whether they engage in activities such as market patrols or standing at street corners during office hours. If any are caught doing so, he called for immediate posting of evidence on Facebook.

Zhang pointed out that recent activities, such as Fu Kunqi's market visits and Hsu Qiaoxin's public hearings, by blue legislators raise questions about their absence from work while the legislature extends its sessions, suggesting that this extension is merely a survival tactic for blue legislators. He further mentioned that if voting on recall measures occurs on July 26, many blue legislators would likely be dismissed afterward, leading to concerns over the legality of the extended session.
