Taiwanese Fruits Achieve New Milestone! Mangoes and Guavas Approved for Export to EU

Taiwan is celebrating another success in its fruit exports! Mangoes and guavas have passed the required steam heat treatment and quarantine procedures, and have been certified by the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, allowing them to be exported to EU member states. Tainan is a major production area for both mangoes and guavas, with Mayor Huang Wei-che sharing the challenges faced during negotiations. Farmers in Kaohsiung also discussed methods to prevent fruit flies, successfully overcoming EU export restrictions. Additionally, the Jiou-Ru Farmers' Association in Pingtung is promoting a new variety called 'Mango Pineapple,' which has a mango flavor and proved very popular during its limited sale of just ten days.
This unique Mango Pineapple has a brighter golden color and delicate flesh, attracting many consumers. Taiwan's agricultural advantage lies in the application of technology; Tainan has focused on developing quarantine technology in recent years, and the Yujing steam heat facility has invested over 50 million NTD to upgrade its equipment. Starting from June 13, with supervision from the quarantine bureau, steam heat treatment at 46.5 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes was completed, certifying the fruits for EU export.
Premier Su Tseng-chang stated, 'The successful export of mangoes and guavas to Europe demonstrates our ability to meet high EU safety standards.' Farmers in Kaohsiung's Yan-Chao district, known for guava production, also share their experiences in eradicating the oriental fruit flies. This series of measures allows Taiwan's fruits to reach European tables directly, marking a new chapter for the island's fruit industry.
