China's Aircraft Carrier Era Arrives Amid Middle East Conflict: Retired General Warns Taiwan of Danger

China's latest aircraft carrier, the 'Fujian', has completed over a year of sea trials, with state media boldly declaring the arrival of a 'three-carrier era', meaning that the Liaoning, Shandong, and Fujian are now operational. Amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, retired Major General Li Zhengjie warned on the program 'Zhang Yating's Spicy Evening Report' that Taiwan should not take this lightly, as the U.S. may redeploy its carriers to the Middle East, leaving Taiwan vulnerable if China's three carriers break through the Second Island Chain.
Li stated that currently, the only U.S. carrier in the Middle East is the Carl Vinson. He noted that the Houthis in Yemen dared to use drones and missiles to force the U.S. Truman carrier to retreat, and he questioned whether Iran, being far more capable, might target the Carl Vinson with similar tactics.
He emphasized that having only the Carl Vinson in the Middle East would be insufficient to face Iran, while the Nimitz is currently in the South China Sea and the Washington is docked at Yokosuka, Japan. If both of these carriers are dispatched to the Middle East, he raised concerns about how Taiwan would respond. Moreover, Li pointed out that the Liaoning and Shandong were recently in Guam, indicating that they have already breached the Second Island Chain. If the Fujian joins them, the U.S. may find itself overwhelmed.
