Dongyuan Elementary School Qualifies for LLB Asia-Pacific Little League Championship After 8 Years, Set to Compete in Korea

The city government has provided funding to support Dongyuan Elementary School's trip to compete. In March this year, Dongyuan Elementary School clinched victory in the national little league championship by defeating Taoyuan's Guishan Elementary School with a score of 11-5, securing their qualification for the 2025 Little League Baseball (LLB) Asia-Pacific Championship for the first time in eight years. They are scheduled to head to Korea on June 23 to compete.
On the 16th, the Taipei City Education Department held a flag presentation ceremony at Dongyuan Elementary School's baseball field, where Mayor Jiang Wan-an presented the Chinese Olympic Committee flag to Principal Chen Yu-ching and handed the city flag to head coach Lai Min-nan and team captain Chen Shih-hung. The Dongyuan Little League team is recognized as one of Taipei City's iconic baseball schools with an 82-year history, having produced many outstanding players, including Sun Yi-lei, who plays for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, Cheng Kun-yu from the China Professional Baseball League, and Liang Chia-jung of the Rakuten Monkeys.
As a perennial contender in national competitions, this year they also won the championship in the hardball division of the elementary school baseball league. The team has now qualified for the Asia-Pacific Cup Little League Championship for the fourth time, and this trip to Korea is expected to set new records for the team's history. During the flag presentation, the team prepared a cheer song with self-written lyrics to welcome Mayor Jiang Wan-an, mentioning their dreams of advancing to the United States and hoping to enjoy a delicious meal. Additionally, main pitcher Lin Jin-ze participated in a pitching practice with the mayor at the end of the event. This year, the school will participate in the competition abroad, with the education and sports departments jointly subsidizing NT$1.8 million, and local temples also contributing funding and 100 safety talismans to support the young athletes.
