A horrifying murder case has emerged in the tranquil mountain town of Avignon in southern France. A pizzeria owner, Schneider (69), is accused, along with his 45-year-old partner, Cabouki, of abducting their neighbor, Meihler (57), leading to his death, and subsequently dismembering and cooking parts of the body as part of a religious ritual.

The details of the case, which surfaced in February 2023, have caused an uproar in society. The accused reportedly entered Meihler’s residence to commit robbery, during which they bound and suffocated him. One of the most disturbing aspects of the case is that after the crime, the suspects dismembered the body. According to Schneider’s confession, he had encountered certain religious rituals in Nepal, which prompted him to cook some body parts to mask the smell of decay, even burning and disposing of pieces of the remains elsewhere. Blood stains and human remains were later discovered in the victim's missing van, confirming the grievous crime.

Currently, three suspects have been indicted, with Schneider facing multiple serious charges, including kidnapping leading to death and mutilation of a corpse. Although Cabouki denies involvement, both she and a 25-year-old gravedigger are being processed as accomplices. This horrifying case has drawn widespread attention and discussion within France, with society deeply shocked by such extreme acts of violence. A judicial decision is expected on the 22nd of this month.
