Shanghai Woman Dies Leaving $300,000 Property, Neighbor Claims to Be 'Goddaughter' Asking for Half

An inheritance dispute has erupted in Shanghai after an elderly woman, who passed away in 2015, left behind a property valued at 300,000 yuan (approximately $46,000) in the Xuhui District. The property has been occupied by her nephew. Recently, a woman named Shen, living in the same district, claimed she is the deceased's 'goddaughter' and is demanding half of the property.
Shen filed a lawsuit, asserting she cared for the elderly woman in her final days; however, the court found insufficient evidence to support her claims. Conversely, the nephew presented multiple witnesses to validate his long-term care for the deceased. Consequently, the court ruled in favor of the nephew, allowing him to inherit the property. This incident has sparked widespread discussion online, with many questioning Shen's motives.
