China Has 600 Nuclear Warheads, Adding 100 Each Year? Beijing Responds

China's deployable nuclear warhead, the DF-31AG intercontinental ballistic missile, has drawn considerable attention. According to Japan's NHK, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute released its annual report on global nuclear forces, stating that China currently possesses 600 nuclear warheads, ranking third in the world, and is increasing its stockpile by approximately 100 warheads each year, faster than any other country.

During a routine press conference, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jia Kun responded that China would not comment on this report. He emphasized that China has always adhered to a defensive nuclear strategy, maintaining its nuclear capabilities at the lowest level necessary for national security, and does not engage in an arms race. Guo also stated that China is committed to a no-first-use policy regarding nuclear weapons, promising not to use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against countries without them.

However, the increase in the number of China's nuclear warheads has raised concerns among many countries, especially as China has been involved in ongoing territorial disputes with neighboring countries; the use of nuclear weapons could potentially lead to global disaster.
