EDF Restructures Renewable Energy Division, Focuses on Taiwan's Key Offshore Wind Projects

The global energy transition is entering a critical phase, and the EDF Group announced on the 18th the integration of its Renewable Energy Division (EDF Renewables) and International Division into a new brand, "EDF power solutions." Led by senior executive vice president Béatrice Buffon, this move is a core step in advancing the "2035 vision."

Eric Chen, General Manager of EDF Energy Taiwan, stated that EDF will leverage synergies with the group to continue pushing for energy transformation, aiding Taiwan in reaching its net-zero carbon emissions target. This merger aims to further consolidate EDF's global operating resources and technical expertise, enhancing market efficiency and brand consistency.

Currently, EDF holds 31GW of low-carbon generation assets across 25 markets with a workforce of 10,000, offering diverse services from low-carbon generation such as wind, solar, hydro, and biomass to grid reinforcement, energy storage, microgrids, and electric transportation, contributing fully to local power system decarbonization and upgrades.

Since entering the Taiwanese market in 2022, EDFR has made significant progress. Following the introduction of the new brand, the former "EDF Renewables Taiwan" will be renamed to "EDF power solutions Taiwan," focusing on two key offshore wind projects: the "Blue Ocean Changhua Wind Farm," with an allocated capacity of 440MW in 2023, and the "Blue Ocean Miaoli Wind Farm," which has a planned capacity of over 1000MW, aiming to become one of Taiwan's leading offshore wind developers.

Buffon emphasized that the establishment of EDF power solutions is a significant milestone for the group in achieving its global energy vision. "We will enhance global visibility by integrating the technology and market advantages of renewable energy and international operations, becoming a key driver of energy transformation." In the future, EDF will continue to maintain its leadership in low-carbon generation, accelerating the energy transition process globally through localized operations, technological innovation, and comprehensive energy solutions. In Taiwan, where pressure for energy independence and net-zero goals is increasing, EDF power solutions Taiwan will also serve as an important indicator of the development of offshore wind power.
