US NCSSFL Delegation Visits Chung Yuan Christian University to Enhance Taiwan-US Chinese Language Education Collaboration

Dr. Ying-Ming Lee, President of Chung Yuan Christian University (third from left), personally welcomed the US NCSSFL delegation, aiming to explore more collaborative opportunities between Taiwan and the US. The delegation visited the Ministry of Education and various universities like National Taiwan Normal University under the arrangement of the Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan, focusing on collaboration in language education, assessment, and the promotion of Chinese.

Chung Yuan Christian University has been recognized for its long-term commitment to Chinese language teaching and for integrating AI technology into education, making it the only private university the NCSSFL delegation visited during this trip. President Lee hopes that this exchange will open new chapters in education cooperation between Taiwan and the US, working together to nurture talents with global perspectives.

The NCSSFL delegation, which includes current president Melissa Monroe and vice president Stacy Lyon, is visiting Taiwan from June 15 to 21, 2025. With the assistance of the Ministry of Education’s education division at the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office in the US, they engaged in dialogues with Taiwanese educational entities to deepen international collaboration on Chinese language promotion, AI, and cultural literacy.

During the discussions, the delegation showed particular interest in Chung Yuan’s Chinese language proficiency testing, curriculum development, teacher training, and student internship systems, hoping to collaborate on larger-scale language education exchange programs in the future. Rocio Zalba, a language specialist from South Carolina’s Department of Education, expressed interest in the Chinese language curriculum project developed by Chung Yuan, wishing to see this material used in US high school Chinese classes.
