Wang Hongwei's Anti-Recall Speech: Self-deprecating Over 'Hardships of Four Elections in Two Years,' Recall Group Mocks Her as Winner in Life

Facing a major recall crisis, Kuomintang legislator Wang Hongwei launched self-rescue efforts by taking to the streets for a speech. Kuomintang Chairman Zhu Lilun has been supporting his party's legislators in various districts for three consecutive days, attempting to solidify the base. Wang further played the sympathy card, claiming her experience of 'four elections in two years' is a hardship, but the recall group sarcastically labeled her a 'winner in life.' Observers noted that despite the hustle at the Binjiang Market, very few stopped to listen to her speech.

During her address, Wang Hongwei appealed for support, sharing her experiences from by-elections and major elections, stating she is set to face another recall vote this year, mentioning, 'There may not be a politician as unfortunate as I am.' However, a volunteer from the recall group pointed out that she has had a smooth educational and career path, thus labeling her as a 'winner in life.'

Moreover, the recall group's second stage of signatures has surpassed 45,000, exceeding 164% of the required threshold, indicating a pronounced shift in public sentiment. This, along with debates surrounding recent recall controversies, poses a double challenge for the Kuomintang.
