Taoyuan Mayor Chang Shan-cheng Visits Japan to Study Rail Economy

The Taoyuan Airport MRT is steadily progressing, with the Taoyuan Metro Green Line expected to begin operations next year. Mayor Chang Shan-cheng recently led a delegation to Tokyo to learn from Japan's rail economy and engage in discussions on urban renewal and social housing.

During the visit, Mayor Chang and his team visited JR East headquarters and stops such as Kichijoji Station and Takanawa Gateway Station to understand how to integrate rail infrastructure with commercial operations while promoting urban planning and the regeneration of older districts. Mayor Chang emphasized that Japan's scale of urban renewal investment is significantly greater than that of Taiwan, highlighting the strong collaboration between government and private resources. He noted that the development of station areas must ensure robust living functions for residents.

Furthermore, Mayor Chang pointed out that social housing policy is a major focus of his administration, aiming to learn from Japan's experiences in setting up basic amenities like day care and medical facilities to support an aging population. The city government is committed to adopting practices from Japan to help Taoyuan achieve its goal of becoming a sustainable and livable city.
