Bullying Leads to Death of Korean Anchor, Outrage Over MBC's Response

The tragic death of South Korean news anchor Oh Yoo-Anna due to bullying has sparked significant public outrage. Oh, who worked at MBC, died in September 2024, and it was revealed that she had endured bullying from fellow anchors for over two years. In a letter left behind, she identified one of her tormentors, Kim Ga-Young, as the "true devil." Despite this, MBC allowed Kim to continue her work as a weather reporter, leading to widespread condemnation from South Korean netizens.

Following the incident, the South Korean National Assembly demanded that MBC executives and related personnel answer questions. MBC publicly apologized on May 19, acknowledging the bullying of Oh Yoo-Anna. However, Kim Ga-Young was still on-air as a weather anchor on May 20, causing many viewers to doubt MBC's commitment to real reform and reflection.
