Author Huang Dami's Adventure in Russia: Streets as Clean as Japan

Author Huang Dami recently traveled to Russia, sharing her experiences on social media. More than three years into the Russia-Ukraine war, which has resulted in countless casualties, her motivation was simple: to see St. Basil's Cathedral. She expressed, "Life is unpredictable; I didn’t want to wait," and decided to join a tour upon spotting one online.

Huang noted that many international brands have pulled out of Russia due to the war, including Starbucks, McDonald's, and KFC, which has led local suppliers to open Russian version stores. As for the taste of the food at these venues, she remarked that they are indistinguishable from the original international brands.

However, Huang pointed out some inconveniences, mentioning that the international payment systems like VISA and ride-hailing services like Uber are unusable due to the war, requiring visitors to exchange US dollars or Chinese yuan for local rubles. Contrary to her expectation that fewer men would be seen in the streets due to the war, she found many men everywhere, and astonishingly, the cleanliness of Russian streets rivaled that of Japan. Regarding safety concerns, she felt comfortable traveling in a group and did not sense any atmosphere of war on the streets.
