Scam Groups Targeting Taiwanese Youth for Exploitation

As online scams continue to be highly profitable, the scale of scam operations is expanding, particularly in Southeast Asia, where these gangs have turned their focus towards Taiwan, where Chinese is also spoken. Many young individuals aged 20 to 35 are lured with the promise of high-paying jobs abroad, only to find themselves redirected to Thailand, and subsequently abducted to Cambodia or Myanmar to become part of these scam groups.
This trend also impacts domestic youth, especially minors from dysfunctional families who are absorbed into these criminal organizations. Our investigation reveals that one orphanage had over a hundred individuals involved, with multiple classmates also caught up in the scheme.
Using platforms like Telegram, brokers require young people to upload their identification documents, employing self-destruct features to eliminate traces. A former courier named Xiaoming joined due to a friend's urging and, upon realizing the legal implications, found it hard to retract. Engineer Awei, introduced to overseas work by a friend, was kidnapped to Cambodia, noting that scammers have a greater demand for IT professionals than for customer service.
Moreover, these groups utilize AI to manage fake websites for their fraudulent activities, shedding light on more complex scamming methods. Related reports are available on Mirror News; if unable to view, please consult your local system provider.
