Seismologist Refutes July 5 Doomsday Prediction: Science Cannot Accurately Predict Earthquakes

A recent manga titled 'What I Saw in the Future' suggesting a major disaster in July 2025 has sparked discussions across Asian social media. Some users are afraid that a large earthquake and tsunami might occur on July 5. However, seismologist Robert Geller has refuted these predictions, stating that even scientific earthquake forecasts are never accurate.
According to Reuters, these predictions have circulated widely on Hong Kong social platforms, causing travelers to hesitate about their plans to visit Japan. EGL Tours' representative Steve Huen noted a 50% decline in their tour business to Japan due to these rumors. Additionally, 大湾航空 has announced an indefinite suspension of its Hong Kong to Tokushima route starting in September.
Professor Geller emphasized that in his over 50 years of research, none of the predictions have ever been close to accurate. He noted that the recent seismic activities around the southern Kyushu region are part of natural phenomena and should not be equated with the manga's narrative.
