Design Flaw Triggers Scrutiny on India's Flyover, 7 Engineers Suspended

Design Flaw Triggers Scrutiny on India's Flyover, 7 Engineers Suspended

A railway flyover in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, with a budget of 200 million rupees has sparked widespread controversy due to a major design flaw. The design included a near-90-degree sharp turn, making it difficult for vehicles to pass safely. In response, the state government has suspended seven engineers, including two chief engineers from the Public Works Department.

Despite explanations from project chief engineer VD Verma stating that restrictions from nearby land and the proximity to a metro station left them with no choice but this design, public outrage persists. The government has also blacklisted the construction and design consultancy companies responsible. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav emphasized that the flyover will not be opened until necessary safety improvements are made.
