South Korea's Gangwon Province Launches 2025-2026 Visit Year to Boost Taiwan-Korea Tourism Cooperation

During the 2025 Taipei International Tourism Expo, South Korea's Gangwon Province and the Gangwon Tourism Organization held a tourism presentation on the 23rd, officially kicking off the "2025-2026 Visit Year" promotion plan, highlighting their focus on the Taiwanese tourism market.

Gangwon Province is well-known for its filming locations for the drama "Winter Sonata" at Nami Island, as well as its autumn foliage and winter skiing scenes in Seoraksan. It has long been a favorite among Taiwanese tourists, attracting over 50,000 visitors annually, with autumn and winter being the most popular seasons. Following the successful first event in 2023, this year's presentation drew over 160 members from Taiwanese tourism associations and industry professionals, reflecting the high interest and growth potential of Gangwon Province in the Taiwanese market.

The event included three main components: "Gangwon Media Forum," "B2B Networking Session," and "Gangwon Tourism Presentation," covering media promotion and industry collaboration. Representatives from the Gangwon Tourism Organization highlighted seasonal tourism resources, popular filming locations for Korean dramas and K-pop, as well as unique wellness experiences, emphasizing the diverse appeal and competitive advantages of Gangwon as an international tourism hotspot.

In addition to its natural beauty, Gangwon Province serves as a cultural hub for the Korean Wave, having been featured in famous Korean dramas like "Winter Sonata," "Blue Birthday," and "Goblin," and as a backdrop for global K-pop stars including BTS. Its diverse attractions also include both seasonal landscapes of Nami Island, the tranquil atmosphere of Tongdosa Temple, and historical landmarks mixed with modern art spaces in Gangneung—must-visit locations for Taiwanese travelers.

During the tourism presentation, representatives from 15 cities in Gangwon gathered with Taiwanese industry professionals to showcase several new tourism highlights, including the thematic projects of the "2025-2026 Visit Year," new tourism resources combining ocean sports with resort experiences, winter sports and snow festivals, K-wave tourism centered around filming locations for Korean dramas and K-pop, and wellness-themed tours designed for the Asian market.

Choi Sung-hyun stated that Taiwan is an essential market with high interest in Korean Wave culture and Korean tourism. This event will serve as a starting point for promoting the "2025-2026 Visit Year," along with continuously developing customized travel products to cater to Taiwanese travelers' preferences, allowing more visitors to personally experience the unique seasonal scenery and deep charm of Gangwon Province.

The Gangwon Tourism Organization emphasized its commitment to deepening strategic cooperation with the Taiwanese market, leveraging diverse tourism resources to attract more Taiwanese visitors to Gangwon Province and further promote mutual development of the tourism industries in both places.
