Chao Shaokang Criticizes Lai Ching-te's Inaction: Disappointed with This Year's Elections

Amid a wave of recall movements across Taiwan, the Kuomintang (KMT) held a policy briefing titled "Against Bad Recalls, Fight Dictatorship" this morning (18th) in Shilin Beitou. Former chairman of the Central Broadcasting System, Chao Shaokang, questioned how elections could be held this year when they should only occur every four years, given that the last election was on January 13th, 2022.
He criticized that President Lai Ching-te has accomplished nothing in nearly a year in office, stating, "I am really disappointed." He pointed out that Lai should be striving to gain the support of the remaining 60%, yet he chose to operate with hatred to solidify his base, causing further social division and conflict, which is not the attitude a president should have.
Regarding the recall movements, Chao indicated that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) uses hatred as a basis for action, aiming to clear out KMT legislators through recalls because they lack a majority in the Legislative Yuan. "We have no hatred; we only have love for this land. We’re proposing recalls out of affection for Taiwan," he stated. Chao further criticized Lai for not attending the opening ceremony for the "Shuangbei Youth Sports Games" last night, questioning what he was busy with, suggesting it might be a call with U.S. President Biden. He concluded that Lai’s refusal to attend seems tied to the fact that both the mayors of Taipei and New Taipei are from the blue camp. He urged people to recall KMT legislator Wu Siyao, claiming it serves as a slap in Lai's face.
