Taiwanese College Student Rescued After Being Trapped in Cambodia for 3 Months
A college student from Shalu District, Taichung, fell victim to a scam while seeking a job in Cambodia this March. After notifying her grandfather, who is over 70, about her dire situation, he managed to wire 136,000 NTD for her release, but was victimized again. However, after extensive efforts from family and cooperation with the police and civil organizations, she has safely returned to Taiwan and reunited with her family.
The student, surnamed Lee, had been hoping to contribute to her family's finances, as her mother suffers from mental and physical disabilities. Initially enticed by job postings abroad, she ended up imprisoned in a fraudulent operation in Cambodia. Thanks to the collaborative rescue efforts, she is now back home and safe.
