Lai Ching-te: China Has Never Governed Taiwan, Unity Is Key

After a breakdown in national security briefings, President Lai Ching-te launched the "Ten Lectures on National Unity," with the first session held today (22nd) at a Rotary Club in New Taipei’s Xinzhuang. In his speech, Lai referred to the discovery of mammoth fossils in Tainan to emphasize that Taiwan has had an independent ecological system since ancient times. He pointed out that the San Francisco Peace Treaty of 1951 did not assign Taiwan to the People's Republic of China, stating, "The People's Republic of China has never governed Taiwan for even one day."

Lai expressed that since assuming office on May 20 of last year, he has actively sought cooperation with allied nations to showcase Taiwan as a constructive force in the international community. Domestically, he seeks to unite the people, emphasizing the need to bolster national defense against threats from China. He elaborated on the contents of the "Ten Lectures on National Unity," covering topics such as sovereignty, unity, national defense, diplomacy, and prosperity.
