Hungary Receives First Batch of L-39 NG to Enhance Flight Training Capacity

According to a report by military news site 'The Aviationist' on May 31, Hungary has received its first batch of L-39 NG light attack trainer aircraft, marking an important step in enhancing the Hungarian Air Force's flight training capabilities and air defense strength.

The first three units were delivered on May 30 to Kecskemét Air Base, built by Czech Aero Vodochody. Hungary has contracted for a total of 12 L-39 NG aircraft, including 8 trainer models and 4 reconnaissance versions, which are set to be delivered by 2028. In addition to being a new generation of flight training platform, these aircraft will enhance surveillance and multi-role operational capabilities.

The L-39 NG, nicknamed 'Skyfox,' features a maximum speed of 907 km/h and a maximum takeoff weight of 5.6 tons. Its range without auxiliary fuel tanks is 2130 km, equipped with a digital cockpit and avionics, significantly improving training efficiency and safety. Reconnaissance variants are equipped with the MX-15 electro-optical sensor for conducting reconnaissance and laser designation missions.

Prior to the first delivery, Hungarian pilots had completed over 100 flight training missions to quickly build up training capability upon their return. Following the delivery of the three L-39 NGs, Hungary is expected to receive an additional five trainer variants by the end of this year, with four reconnaissance aircraft to be delivered by 2028.
