37 Candidates Assassinated Ahead of Mexico's Judicial Election! Armor Car Demand Surges

Mexico's first judicial election is taking place today, with over 2,600 judicial positions to be filled. However, leading up to the election, 37 candidates have already been assassinated, prompting many political figures and families to invest heavily in armored vehicles for safety, resulting in a significant increase in orders for local armored car manufacturers.

Protesters have voiced, "We oppose judicial fraud; I will not vote." This election marks Mexico's first-ever judicial election, where voters will choose 9 out of approximately 7,700 candidates for the Supreme Court. Some protesters described the election as a fraud, asserting that the entire judicial process is corrupt.

Despite these concerns, President Obrador showed up at a polling station, proclaiming, "Long live democracy." Nonetheless, the election is overshadowed by violence, with 37 candidates assassinated and over 800 violent incidents reported. Many candidates are resorting to wearing bulletproof vests and traveling in armored cars during their campaigning for safety.

Armored vehicle dealers explain that their designs allow occupants to shoot from inside the vehicle and include escape doors for emergencies, with candidates willing to spend tens of thousands of dollars for protection. Reports indicate that in Mexico City alone, violent crime has soared by over 150% compared to the same period last year, encompassing murder and kidnapping, showcasing a deteriorating security situation.
