President Lai Ching-te Launches National Unity Lecture Series, Highlights Taiwan's Sovereignty with the 'San Francisco Peace Treaty'

President Lai Ching-te today inaugurated the first session of the National Unity Lecture Series, focusing on the theme of 'Nation.' He emphasized that the rise and fall of a nation is everyone's responsibility, stating that there is no perfect egg under a collapsed nest. He referenced the San Francisco Peace Treaty, asserting that 'the People's Republic of China has never possessed Taiwan' and 'has never governed Taiwan for even one day.'

Lai delivered his speech at the District 3490 Combined Regular Meeting of the Rotary International in New Taipei City, stressing the importance of cooperation both domestically and internationally, to showcase Taiwan's capability and contributions to the world. He expressed hope for uniting the people, fostering collaboration across political divides, and tackling challenges, particularly against threats from China.

According to Lai, a nation's definition includes its people, land, government, and sovereignty, clearly stating that Taiwan and the Chinese regime have had no relation since the Treaty of Shimonoseki. He reinforced the independent status of the Republic of China and Taiwan, asserting that China's claims of sovereignty are unfounded.

Additionally, Lai listed five national security threats posed by China to Taiwan and called on all citizens to unite in defending Taiwan's sovereignty and democracy.
